About Us

Lamiah Askar returned from a mission trip at the refugee camps in Palestine and Jordan. After witnessing the conditions of the Palestinian people, she was moved to create Wishing Threads, to fund programs for at-risk populations both internationally and domestically.

Today, Wishing Threads focuses fundraising efforts on personal & community engagement. In addition to traditional fundraising, proceeds from Lamiah’s unique clothing collection help fund projects. Her designs combine traditional tatreez on modern upcycled clothing, seeking to preserve the Palestinian heritage threads & promote women’s creative growth & financial stability.

Our mission is to oversee projects and build lasting solutions that will span generations.

It all begins with an idea. Meet the amazing team behind our organization.

Founder/President
Lamiah is a mom first with a BA in Communications and an MBA in Finance. A brain tumor survivor, Lamiah now dedicates herself to helping others. This first led to her helping refugees and co-founding an organization called Tanweer, the Arab American Family Center, and now Wishing Threads Foundation

Treasurer/Board Member
Liz brings years of experience in the nonprofit sector in addition to her really incredible resume. She has a BA in Broadcasting/Communications which led her to a long career in journalism. She is a multi award winning Editor/Producer working for the world renowned news network CNN.

Founder
Every organization requires concentration and dedication and who better than Nadia who, as a trained yoga instructor, has mastered those arts. Nadia has a BA in International Business and International Studies and a Master’s in Nonprofit Management.
